Planning and anticipating business success and growth in the New Year? Then, having a people plan in place within your organisation is a step in the right direction. It is pertinent to develop and have an effective people management plan in place as part of your strategic planning.

So, here are suggested simple ideas:

One – To have a positive and engaging work culture, you should have a people plan in place. It is very important to have an understanding of what your organisation’s short term and long term needs are to enable you to hire aright – the right talent/people at the right time in the right place and with the right resources.

Two – It may really not be about being the most educated, the best graduate or the class of degree. Surprisingly, all you may need is a creative, competent, confident and highly motivated employee. The best gift an employee can bring into an organisation is having the right ‘ATTITUDE’.

Three – Talent retention is often a challenge. So, what can you do? Simple! Give your employees a sense of belonging. Make them feel they are a part of the organisation and a major factor in the organisation’s success. Be generous with commendations and appreciation. A simple recognition could do the trick. Helping your employees realise how they have contributed to building or growing the organisation would be the icing on the cake.

Four – Put in place a clear and concise job responsibility arrangement devoid of ambiguity. Clearly state to the employee what is expected of him or her. Also, a clear statement of what the organisation stands for would be helpful.

Five – Seriously, you do not need people who do not share your vision or values on your team. You need no sentiments about this. If your flight is headed to Europe would you bring on-board someone headed to the United States? Get the right people on-board and it is painful, you may have to de-board the wrong people.

Six – A little compensation or reward here and there seals the deal if you ask me.

Summarily, inspire your employees, grow their capabilities, help them align with organisational objectives and goals and you will be smiling home with increased turnover at year-end having had a competitive edge. Build people and organisational relationships. A happy and engaged people are a happy organisation.
